Quick Battle Summary (eHexeris vs. Reznik 35pts) and eHexy Thoughts

This is a week old game (from last Friday), so I'll give the highlights.

The lists were

Lord Arbiter Hexeris (+6)
*Bronzeback Titan (10)
*Titan Cannoneer (9)
*Titan Gladiator (8)
*Cyclops Savage (5)

6 Venator Rievers (5)
4 Paingiver Beast Handlers (2)

Extoller Soulward (2)

vs.

Sevrath Reznik (+6)
*Scourge of Heresy
*Vanquisher (I think, it has the fire AoE)

The Avatar of Menoth

5 Exemplar Bastions
4 Choir of Menoth

3 Wracks
Vassal

The game actually ended pretty quickly.  My opponent made a few mistakes, and also suffered from consistently below-average luck.  Reznik ended up within 9.5" of my Bronzeback at the end of his second turn (luck played a roll here too - with decent rolls, Reznik would have killed my Savage, then Scourge could have screened him), and died.

The funniest part of the game for me was that eHexy, an offensive spellslinger with some really decent defensive buffs, only ever cast Rush all game (and boy did he cast it).  Scourge of Heresy was camping Focus, so Black Spot and Hellfire didn't really see play, and there just wasn't much benefit to putting up Ashen Veil given that my opponent's army was mostly melee warjacks.

After the game, I've made some decisions about my eHexy lists.  In my last game against Calandra, I enjoyed using the Sentry as a blocker (and arc node), and using my Venators for ranged support.  My Cannoneer isn't nearly as good a blocker as the Sentry, and in this game, I really wished I'd had a unit that could have jammed up my opponent's 'jacks.  I'm currently thinking Bloodrunners, since Stealth is a good ability to have, and since they're Def 16 vs. living models with Ashen Veil (though Concealment does nothing for them).  They'll deploy ahead of everyone else, and jam up enemy models, either 'jamming warjacks to deny them a charge on my beasts, or counter-jamming infantry to keep them from doing the same to my warbeasts.  I'll try to give it a whirl this Saturday night, or possibly next week.

Life without Tartarus

So, the last leg of the War-Torn Alliance leagues is upon us. This time around Cryx is allied with Retribution, I assume thanks to Goreshade? I don’t own a mage hunter unit which is really too bad because pDenny + MHSF would have been absolutely hilarious. I also, uh, don’t own a unit of Bane Knights, so I can’t use their new UA. And since their UA replaces Tartarus, well, I can’t use him at all. Oh, and I’m trying to become less reliant on the Satyxis Raiders, so I won’t be running them for a few weeks either. Crumbs.

But that’s ok. Cryx has plenty of other excellent infantry, some of which I even own. And Bane Thralls don’t need Tartarus. Tartarus just gives them replenishment, accuracy, and speed. So, how can I replace him? Normally I run min Banes + UA + Tartarus; now I’ll just go max Banes + UA. Slightly cheaper and it gives me the numbers for attrition. To replace Tartarus’s accuracy buff I’ll take a caster who helps with hitting. That means either Denny or either Skarre (don’t have 3Gaspy yet). And while I can’t boost my troops’ speed, I can slow the enemy down to a crawl with pDenny. My current level of “pDenny guilt” is low, so I’m not going to feel bad about taking out my favorite girl.

Ok, so now my list looks like this:

pDenny
*Nightwretch x2
*Skarlock
Bane Thralls x10
*UA

(I typically take two Nightwretches and a Skarlock with pDenny for what I hope are obvious reasons.)

While pDenny is an incredible debuffer, I’m not convinced of her ability to control an entire enemy army on her own (outside of her feat turn, of course). So I want some more control/denial in here. On a lark I’m going to include a Desecrator. I’ve never used this jack before, but the free focus for hanging out near Banes and the 4” aoe scather gun make me think it has a place in this list. A brace of Pistol Wraiths will let me control heavies and assassinate Scourged casters, and two Sirens for anti-infantry duty. The final 35 point list looks like this:

pDenny
*Desecrator
*Nightwretch x2
*Skarlock
Bane Thralls x10
*UA
Pistol Wraith x2
Warwitch Siren x2

I’m still a little worried about threat ranges, but hopefully my stuff will be stealthy and/or sturdy enough to make it’s way up the board. We'll see how it goes tomorrow next time I get a game in.

By the pricking of my thumbs...

Hey everyone. I’m Michael, the third and most handsome fellow to join this blog. My primary faction is Cryx for a host of reasons but mainly because I like things that are spooky. Like Toruk, I’m too far from my blogging cohorts to strike at them directly, only instead of being in an archipelago filled with gothy witches and deathly blight I’m just in a different part of the country.

I was going to include a report of a recent battle, but I can’t figure out how to say “I Ghostwalked my bile thralls out of melee and barfsploded them all over the army of my fairly inexperienced opponent” without sounding like a sociopath, so that will have to wait.

Oh, and I also have a pair of cats, bringing the feline:person ratio of this blog to 4:3.

Cat and Other Cat. Cat isn't actually that much bigger than
Other Cat; there's just some screwy perspective going on.

Keepin' My Hand In

If I don't do frivolous posts on a regular basis, I stop posting, as happened last week.  I also didn't get any games in, which didn't help matters much.

There is no content here.  It's a frivolous post to get me back into the swing of things.
